Pre-Stressed Masonry

Biographical Sketch of Edward Freyermuth
Ed has 40 years experience in the masonry industry. He is currently serving as chair of the Technical Committee with the Arizona Masonry Guild. He is a member of ASTM and serves on the C12 (Mortar and Grout) and C15 (Manufactured Masonry Units) committees, and is Chair of the ASTM Task Group on Unit Specifications. Ed is a member of the MSJC Main Committee, also serving on several sub-committees. Ed serves on the NCMA Technical Sub-Committee, and is a member of the Masonry Alliance for Codes and Standards. He is registered with ICC as a "Certified Special Inspector of Masonry"
The presentation will discuss some of the history of Pre-stresses masonry and its status in today's codes, and advantages and disadvantages of pre-stress masonry vs. conventional masonry construction. There will be a brief discussion on some of the research and testing that has been done. Ed will cover some of what is involved in using pre-stressed masonry, and special items that need to be considered. The presentation will also include some local projects where pre-stressed masonry has been used.
Lisa Prichard, Executive Director of the Arizona Masonry Contractors Association, and Terry Rathbun, with Sun Valley Masonry will also be in attendance to add their insights and answer questions.
