Topic: 3D Laser Scanning Presentation
by
Ryan Darling

In this 3D Laser Scanning (3DLS) for Structural Engineering presentation, Ryan Darling will discuss the technology of 3DLS, its application to Engineering structures, and solutions it offers to challenges commonly encountered in the Engineering process.

The discussion will cover:

  • Overview of 3DLS fundamentals and its benefits to the Engineering process
  • Point Cloud data as the foundational ouput of 3DLS, and its role as the building block for creation of deliverables useful to Structural Engineers
  • Demonstration of various available 3DLS Deliverables for Engineers’ use
  • Discussion of 3DLS solutions for specific types of Structural Engineering needs
  • Examples of 3DLS solutions applied to previous Structural Engineering projects

This presentation will provide a highly informative overview of the technology; its application for solving precise measurement needs of the Engineering process; and provide examples of how it can help achieve Engineering goals faster, with greater efficiencies, and increased profitability.

Ryan Darling Biography

Mr. Darling is Vice President of 3D Technologies at Darling Geomatics, headquartered in Tucson, Arizona.  As one of the 3D Laser Scanning (3DLS) industry’s early adopters and leading experts, Ryan has more than twelve years experience managing 3DLS projects for many applications including Roadways, Bridges, Landfills, Tunnels, Industrial Plants, Power Plants, Mines, Electrical Substations, Waste Water Treatment Plants, Hospitals, and more.  Ryan’s educational background enables him to readily apply this technology to create practical solutions for real business needs, with the goal of helping clients achieve their goals faster, with greater efficiencies, and increased profitability.  Ryan graduated from the University of Arizona with a degree in Economics, and also holds a degree in Professional Pilot & Flight Technology.

Integrating Traditional Survey with 3DLS enables greater accuracy in data capture, laying the foundation for superior quality deliverables such as 3D Models.  Drawing from his own Traditional Survey experience combined with Darling’s extensively experienced Traditional Survey Division, Ryan effectively directs his team in obtaining highly accurate data.

Ryan uses his end-to-end expertise to apply a proprietary 5-point Quality Assurance process that achieves the highest of integrity in Darling’s 3DLS deliverables.  With over twelve years of CAD drafting and 3D modeling experience, Ryan understands the intricacies of post-processing 3DLS data into the accurate, useful deliverables Engineers demand.
