Learning Objectives:

-The concept of Blast Resistant Design

-Effect of Blast Loads on Buildings and the response of buildings to blast loads

-General DoD Design Criteria for blast resistant buildings pertaining to masonry buildings

-The concept and cause for progressive collapse of buildings

-Design principles to prevent progressive collapse using structural brick wals

 

Biography of Speaker:

Sunup Mathew, Director of Technical Services, Interstate Brick and HC Muddox is a  licensed Structural Engineer (UT), and a LEED™ Accredited Professional who has 10 years of experience in the design of structures using masonry, steel and concrete.

 

Sunup is a member of The Masonry Society, Masonry Alliance for Codes and Standards, Shear and Axial subcommittees of The Masonry Standards Joint Committee (MSJC) and C 12 and C 15 committees of ASTM.  He has co-authored structural engineering papers in ACI, PCI and TMS publications.

 

Sunup holds a Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering from Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, MI and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Kerala University in India.
