Overview
As a structural engineer in our company, you will be introduced to basic practical design essentials with hands-on skills different from those obtained in the academic arena. Your experience with BSE will help you enhance your engineering design abilities and help you with your transition from a student to a working professional.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis from an accredited institution.
- E.I.T. Certification or ability to pass within 6 months
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to interpret construction drawings
- Ability to use Microsoft 360
- Have taken at least a wood, masonry, concrete, or steel design class
- Have used Enercalc, Tedds, Mathcad, Risa 3D, STAAD, ETABS, or other 3D modeling programs
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare structural calculations manually and using standard computer engineering programs. Calculations will model the current building codes and standards
- Interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Perform special structural inspections
- Perform site visits to review existing conditions and structural concerns
- Prepare reports presenting findings of structural reviews and analysis
- Sketch details and mark-up plans for draftsmen to draw
- Back-check and coordinate plans and details with requirements from calculations and building codes
- Review and mark up plans and details as needed to present information to draftsmen, plan examiners, and contractors
- Research building codes and standards
- Complete projects on time and meet deadlines
- Continue learning by participating in local structural engineering associations and obtaining a minimum of 10 Continuing Education Units (CEU) annually
- Work under the direction of the Principal/Project Manager
